SECond Glances - Expectations

So, this week we are going to talk about expectations….and so I have been knee deep in the reflecting pool of how that shows up for me. I often tell folks that I am living my plan H life…although humorous…it is definitely a true story. Now this is by no means a bad thing…I just think it speaks to the realization of how life often outsmarts our own expectations. For me expectations are the great revealer. They show us our deepest passions, and often our deepest areas of growth and challenge. Where we get detoured sometimes is our uncanny ability to white knuckle these expectations. To meet them with a “do or die” attitude whether they serve us or not. So, the practice for me has been to soften around the area of expectation. Now this is not to say that I play the freeloader on the couch just watching life go by, but instead I am kind of like a rain barrel allowing life to rush in at any given moment. In this allowing I am able to release my grip just a little, which mysteriously opens up my peripheral vision to all that life has to offer. So, the invitation this week is to put our expectations under our own version of the electron microscope and see what they have to teach us.
